All weather play area at Wyvern

05 Aug 2024

The Foundation and the Wyvern P&F generously supported the installation of a new covered outdoor learning area (COLA) that was completed in early Term 2. The COLA is a shelter that provides safe and functional undercover outdoor space for students, staff and visitors. The Wyvern COLA has provided an expansion of learning and playing space with excellent year-round weather protection for school assemblies, school events, recreational activities, creativity and play spaces, emergency meeting points, and improves student fitness and movement, at the same time providing protection from damaging UV-rays.

Ben Barrington-Higgs, Head of Preparatory Schools and ELC, commented that the COLA is providing an exceptional enhancement to outdoor learning opportunities for Wyvern House students. "The new COLA means that all the students are able to play outside, rain, hail or shine. Saturday basketball games, which have been severely disrupted by the recent weather, will go ahead with more consistency. The COLA is great for our students, excellent for our community, and wonderful for the Wyvern culture," Ben said.

The official opening of the COLA will be held on Friday, 6 September. Please contact foundation@newington.nsw.edu.au for details.

Work has also commenced at the Robert Glasson Memorial Boatshed for the remodelling of kitchen facilities and communal spaces, expected to be completed later in Term 3.
